topic EE 4G hub broadcasting 2 SSIDs (2.4ghz & 5ghz) in Mobile Broadband

Hi there my friend has just taken delivery of a new EE 4G hub. When we turned it on and got it running I found there were 2 SSIDs being broadcast - one for the 2.4ghz channel and one for 5ghz channel.
I was surprised by this as she and her parents don’t want to choose which one to connect to. I thought this was the point of a ‘smart’ hub - it broadcasts a singular connection and the hub device chooses which channel is best behind the scenes?

Having logged onto the admin hub I cant see any settings to change this, but I may have missed it.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

You have to choose anyway which SSID to connect to amongst all the other SSIDs knocking around with your neighbours.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there no way to keep both on, but only present 1 SSID? That’s how my own (fixed line) broadband smart hub works so thought this would be the same.
I can disable one of the channels in settings but then how do I know which is the best to keep active.

Seems like a bit of faff for what should be a plug and play kind of device imo, and shouldn’t be for the consumer (who’s likely not au fait with wireless frequencies) to keep deciding which channel is best to use for their devices.

Choose 5 GHz band for nearby devices for speed.

Choose 2.4 GHz band for faraway devices for reach.

Add - Alexa devices only work on the 2.4 GHz network and if you have them both connected as in some hubs you can have great difficulty in getting them connected.
