I have a USR G808 router, it won't connect to EE

https://www.pusr.com/support/downloads/usr-g808-datasheet_V100.html

The SIM works properly in my phone and also in another 4G router. I have tried the standard APN settings, as well as every other combination I can think of. I can see it trying to handshake with EE but failing to connect.

I have tried a Vodafone SIM in it, and that just worked (with the Vodafone APN settings).

I have asked USR technical support how to turn off IPV6, in case this is the problem. I have also asked them how to add MCC and MNC details. They haven't replied yet. But this doesn't feel like their issue, it feels like something at EE's end.

I tried calling EE, but was told that they only support their hardware! I thought they were a network, not just a device supplier.

Any ideas or help, are greatly appreciated.

Hi @vwvanmanjs

Welcome to the community.

The test that you did with the SIM card is about as far as our technical support team can support you with. Using the SIM in an EE supplied device shows that the SIM is being served with a data connection. Hopefully that USR technical support team can help you amend the settings so that it works with our network.

There could also be other users here in the community who have managed to get round similar problems in the past.

Which Region is the Router designed for, it will probably be the last Digit's or Letters after the Model Number.

This looks like a Dual Sim Fall Back Router, so the correct APN Settings will need to match each or which Sim is in Use and the correct Sim Slot for use or for Fall Back.

If you dont mind me mentioning this but it looks like the Router Specs are CAT4 (Pre LTE A / 4G+) so when working its not really going to give you the full benefits of Modern 4G Networks.

It depends on the Area and Traffic loadings, EE use B1, B3, B7 and B20, with B1, B3 and B7 being the ideal for Data use, EE also using Multi Band Carrier Aggregation across a Mix of Bands as well as MiMo but sadly you will limited to One Band Only and its single Bandwidth without CA on this Device, the Single Band in use will be presented to you from the Networks Mast.

Is this Router Brand New (out of the Box) or pre owned, if the later, then it might be worth doing a Factory Reset, also does the Router have any Band Locking or Cell Locking? ( a lot of the Industrial Routers do) if so, after a Factory Reset this should be reset for None (ie, All Bands Selected) but its also worth checking Manually.

Recommend Settings for the APN is

Everywhere, IPV4 and PAP.

I think that should be able to add a script to do this though.

It also doesn't appear to have Band Locking or Cell Locking.

I can see it trying to connect to EE it both sends and receives packets but doesn't complete the handshake.

Thanks again for your ideas

If IPV4/6 Settings are available it should be within the APN Profile somewhere, set it to IPV4 Only rather than IPV4+6 or IPV6. unless the Router is using a very old DUN Script Settings that use the DUN Setting to configure each New Connection (Very Unlikely but possible)

First off what EE Network Signal Information are you getting, if you dive into the Routers Setting its should tell you Signal Quality Settings ie, RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ and SNIR.

Does the Router use External Antenna Ports for 4G, if so are these set up with the |Correct Antenna for the 4G Bands.

To add on the 4G bands point, B3 1800Mhz is EE's base band and is present on the vast majority of sites.

B1 & B7 are used as capacity layers but will always be co-deployed alongside B3.

B20 800Mhz is used as a coverage enhancement and will usually co-exist with B3. In some remote areas, B20 will be the only available layer.

@vwvanmanjs - The only network signal strength information, is a line of LEDs, but these only light up when connected to the network. So they lit up when it was connected to Vodafone, but nothing for EE.

That's where you need to start, if you're not getting any signal information on EE, a signal indicator does not necessarily mean a data connection, ie. It is possible to get a signal connection but no internet or data connection, as you're getting neither then I would start first on what's happened to the lack of signal.

Out of interest have you tried this SIM in a phone in the same location, also have you checked the EE coverage within your within the location using EE's online coverage checker
