topic Which 4G or 5G router is the most stable? in Mobile Broadband

I was just wondering if anyone can advise which 4G or 5G router would provide the most stable connection?

There are four to choose from:

1) Smart 5G Hub

2) 5G WiFi

3) 4G Wifi

4 )BT 4G Home Hub with EE SIM

I can already rule out number 4 as we recently got a BT 4G Home Hub with EE SIM and have been having a lot of problems with it.

The wifi signal keeps dropping out periodically despite it having full signal and periodically loses internet connection through the ethernet port even when the wifi is working.

In the past I have use my phone as a mobile hotspot in the exact same location and the wifi network from my phone never drops out, so I don't understand why a dedicated wifi router does.

It is not convenient to continue using a mobile hotspot, we need a dedicated router with an ethernet port. We already have a mini hub too which works flawlessly.

We think we may have just received a defective router, so might get a new BT 4G Home Hub with EE SIM, but we were thinking of perhaps trying one of the other options if they have a better track record for being more reliable if anyone can advise?

I have seen some people complaining in forum posts with similar issues with some of the other routers so wouldn't want to get one that has the exact same problem.

I've spoken to technical support already and they looked at it and ultimately the only thing they recommended was either trying a new router and/or fitting an external antenna (despite the router having full signal and phone wifi hotspots working flawlessly). EE won't fit an external antenna in my area so I would have to pay a third party to do it or do it myself.

Hi @jof8

The 5G options would give you access to both 4G and 5G networks, so would probably offer a better service if you're within 5G coverage.

Are you looking to get one on a new contract?

We only have 4G in this area but thought a 5G one might be more stable and it could be newer and have better tech.

Yes would be on a new contract.

If you order online or over the phone, you have 14 days to send back if it isn't an improvement, @jof8

Chris
