Phone broadband slow over vpn?

My phone works fine over 5G on my EE contract but when I try to use a VPN (Nord or Whitehat) I get unusable speeds. I can see this clearly with Speedtest.net. It seems most noticeable in Worcester. If I connect over WiFi it is fine.

I've tried calling EE but the script just tests my line and says all ok.

Anyone help or even tell me how to speak to a human at EE?

There no script for Phone or Mobile 5G, do you mean 5Ghz as in WiFi?, have you tried calling EE Customer services.

As a general rule VPN can be a lot slower as your routing your Internet Connection through a different (non EE) Gateway.

I meant the script on the 'press 1 for mobile broadband' etc. I couldn't find a way to end up with a person. I'll try again.

My VPN can be slower than straight through (35Mbps) , but this (0.2Mbps) is unusable. If I use my non-EE SIM, it works fine. I wondered if EE throttle VPN for some reason.

@EeCw When calling EE customer services select option 2.

EE don’t restrict you if your using a VPN.

I got through to a really helpful human in the end. It appears to be a fault in Worcester - I don't get it at home. I'll try again in a week or so. Thanks for your replies.

As for GRE you’re playing around with iPv6 and iPv4, That’s for when a network doesn’t support iPv6 and you send iPv6 packets encapsulated in iPv4 packets. Problem is why are you doing that on a network that supports iPv6 ? This thread is about mobile broadband that’s a cellular network connection that supports iPv6.

This is nothing todo with a VPN or being restricted.

and if your having issues with fixed line broadband thats the same fixed line that all other ISP use and I’m sure you know that.

Ps that’s as far as I got with networking issues.

GRE by IPv4 nothing to do with IPv6 I moved my backup connection form one 4G network that did support PPTP and GRE but EE does not support it only stuff by TCP or UDP.
