Upgrade?

I have a mobile contract and thought my second contract was data only for my mobile broadband. My broadband has been getting slower over the last few months and many days is not fit for purpose. I was told an option was to upgrade to a new contract including a router and if I still had a slow connection could get an antenna. When I tried to do that I was told I couldn't and would need to start a new contract and have three contracts simultaneously. 3 more months of paying for a service I was not using did not feel like a bargain. Do I have any alternatives?

Doesn't your mobile BB contract already have a mobile router? That's what mobile BB is. Why would another mobile BB contract be any faster?

I thought it was a SIM only mobile broadband deal but it turns out it is just a plain sim only deal so in theory I could take the SIM out of the router and use it in a phone. When I got it I explained I needed it only for my broadband.

Hi @3weedogs.

Have you got a router with a SIM card in it?

If you have a home router with a SIM in, these are the ones that you can get an antenna for.

I'm not sure why you have three lines on your account now though, your second one could possibly have been upgraded.

I have a router with my sim in it but not an ee router. I was told by the upgrade team I could not upgrade from the SIM to mobile broadband with included router which was what I was trying to do. My only option was to get a new mobile broadband contract and keep paying the SIM only one until the end of the contract. That would be another 4 months to pay on the SIM only. I had always thought the SIM was a mobile broadband contract but I was wrong.

Looking forward to another day of 1-2 meg broadband. The lovely lady I talked to in the call centre before going to the upgrade people suggested do the upgrade and if I see no improvement then contact the team that fits the antennas. First world problems.

Yes, that's right! You can only upgrade a SIM-Only to another SIM-Only or a mobile phone contract, not to a mobile BB contract which is an entirely separate product. You could wait the 4 months before getting the mobile BB contract.

One option now would be to order the mobile BB contract, try it out for up to 14 days & then cancel within the statutory 14-day cooling-off period.
