If you are on T-Mobile, your voicemail wont be set-up for you. It's also a 2 step process on T-Mobile to activate voicemail:
1) Dial 150 and get to the tech support menu then the voicemail option to turn on diverts. Once enabled you will receive a text confirming, re-boot your phone.
2) Dial 121 to set-up the second part of your voicemail
Once both steps are done you can then press 1 or hit your voicemail icon to access it.
Also, on T-Mobile, voicemail is free on pay monthly but chargable on PAYG accounts.
