Apps of the Week #3: dating

We like to think we’ve got a pretty good view of what’s happening in the world of apps. But sometimes it’s not easy to navigate the winding roads of Appville, so we thought you might appreciate a few timely tips.

Each week we’ll bring you three great apps, all focusing on a particular area of your life – from food and films to fun gadgets and furry creatures. How does that sound? Exactly.

This week we’ve been feeling like a lil' romancin’, so here are our top 3 dating apps to celebrate Valentine’s Day – OK, Valentine’s Week…

  1. OkCupid
The joy of this app is it zeroes in on your potential dream date with laser-sighted accuracy. The more of its probing questions you answer, the closer you’ll get to your life partner de choix. It’s also got a handy “who’s nearby?” tool that lets you (benignly) stalk anyone who’s taken your fancy.

  2. Plenty of Fish
Again, there’s the option of scanning all fellow singletons in your vicinity, but the real beauty of the Plenty of Fish app is that you can completely transform your profile on the move – so if you fancy someone nearby and think they might not like what they see, it’s easy to reinvent yourself.

  3. Grindr

The trailblazing daddy of GPS-enabled dating apps, Grindr’s a gay-friendly pioneer and just keeps growing. It’s even spawned a straight version, Blendr, but it’s a long way off the original in terms of uptake. Looking for some sweet lovin' but no joy at home? Get out there and start, ahem, grindng…

Already using one of these dating apps? Any others you think everyone should know about? Let us know!

Stay tuned next week when we’ll be bringing you three more tasty apps.
