4GEE speed Test

by ‎17-07-2013 05:23 PM - edited ‎17-07-2013 05:25 PM

Hi everyone,

I'd be really interested to see what sort of speed and coverage you're getting on your 4G EE handsets at the moment.

Mine have been ranging from around 20 mbps - 50 mbps Download and 30 mbps - 50 mbps Upload in and around London.

Maybe you could start posting your screenshots of your speeds;

a good app to use is "Speedtest.net" which is available on most mobile operating systems.

It'd also be great to find out what you've been using that speed for? I for one have been hotspotting mine to download games and movies on my desktop computer, as it appears to be faster than my home broadband!

Here's a list of my better ones around East London:

Happy speeding!

Joe

The fastest I've seen round here in East Lancashire so far is ~35Mbps down and ~25Mbps up.  The patchy EE4G is still all singal channel 10MHz 4G though round here (not the double speed 4G EE mentioned the other week)

Anyone with an iPhone, you can see if you are in a double speed area (20Mhz download bandwidth) by putting your iPhone into field test mode by going to the dialer and keying in *3001#12345#* then press call.  Clicking 'Serving Cell Info'  will show you your 4G bandwidth your are using - you only see this option when on LTE, it won't show the bandwidth when on 3G.

Not sure how to post screenshots but here are the links for them:

In Glasgow when I get connected to 20 MHz bandwidth mast:

  • 18 - 23 mbps down and 10 - 30 mbps up in Glasgow City centre during peak times with Full bars of 4G signal.

  • 15 - 32 mbps down and 10 - 30 mbps up in Glasgow west end during off peak times.  with 1 - 3 bars of 4G signal.

  • none LTE reception in Blackpool parents' place despite the coverage checker said we should get excellet LTE service both indoor and outdoor.

Although the speed in Edinburgh and Leeds are much better !  I get around 30 - 50 mbps down in avearge !

The fastest I have had in the New Forest, Hampshire is 50.18 Mbps down and 11.84 Mbps up

But the average is between 37 Mbps and 46 Mbps down and  11 Mbps up to 20 Mbps up. I have found the upload speed seems faster when around the 30 to 35 Mbps down speed

Here's one done a moment ago - I usually get between 15 and 25Mbit up and down most of the time: http://i.imgur.com/jg0Faoo.jpg

And here's the fastest download I've managed so far: http://i.imgur.com/z4GjeFH.png

Both were done in Stafford (West Mids) on LTE - the first one was done in my house, and the second one was done nearby, outside (full signal).

I've not yet been to any of the double speed areas so I've not been able to do a speedtest there, and my town isn't exactly big so I suspect it will be a while before it gets the double speed upgrade.

Hello Joe,

I noticed the recent bragging by EE in the Telegraph this week, amongst other places about LTE now being available in Tonbridge... Well I have a 4G modem, a

iPhone 5 and an iPad mini, yet the LTE signal seems to be hiding from us! I live just off the High Street in Tonbridge and it rubs me the wrong way when EE go on this spree announcing things that are just NOT accurate. When I called customer services I was advised that there was another "darker green" (not shown on your coverage checker!) that I was outside of, are EE the new BT???? all the hype, millions spent of marketing and PR, and are unable to get the very basic things right...?

How do I insert my speedtest reults please???

Here is my best Speedtest so far

East Croydon Railway Station: http://www.speedtest.net/android/480644226.png

Admittedly this is where I was in proximity to the mast: https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/993765_10200233444894741_1078133890_n.jpg

Also I've never had a Ping exceed 100ms during a speedtest in a 4G or even a H+ area. Occasionally drop down to GPRS in Somerset and Wiltshire which is very irritating. So I've set my phone into Only 3G Data Mode (Samsung Galaxy S4). So when I go to Bristol, Southend, London or Manchester I just have to remember to put it back to 2G/3G/4G before I leave which is a mild inconvenience but hardly the end of the world.

speed tests for Wombourne in Staffs is currently reading as

Ping 34ms download 8573 kbps  upload 1446 kbps

Hmmm not good eh oh and errm 2 bar signal ! which often drops to nothing

will update again tomorrow when i am in birmingham

I've hit 73 mbps download and 35 mbps upload near Carshalton Beeches station and London Bridge station.

Does anyone know how to add screenshots of speed checks into these posts?

They've got an insert video button but not one for image!

by on ‎08-08-2013 03:26 PM

Hi guys,

I've looked into this bug and you should all now be able to upload images! Sorry about that.

They will be moderated so may take a little time to appear, but not long.

Thanks

I am currently getting zero kb per sec, and have been advised that this may be the case until Tuesday next. Some network techy problem, and it is obviously so unimportant for ee to provide servie here Ive been advised that i may not get service again until Tuesday next. Already looking forward to leaving ee.

Hi. I've just joined EE with the HTC one. I'm living on 1 bar of signal [as my town doesnt have a 4G cell site yet, so im getting signal from the next town over] and averaging 20 - 40mbps Down. and up to 12mbps UP. which is rather impressive on 1 lonely bar!

by jamesvincentuk Contributor on ‎02-09-2013 12:10 PM

Over the weekend... 51mbps DL. 38 UP..!
